Diode maker Actron to grow NEV shipments by 50% in next 5 years

Automotive diode manufacturer Antron Technology has formulated a five-year business development roadmap, aiming for NEV (new energy vehicle) application shipments to catch up with ICE (internal combustion engine) vehicle shipments by 2026 on the basis of maintaining double digits , is expected to reach 50%.

Shipments of diodes for ICE vehicles currently account for 90% of Actron's annual revenue, and this proportion is expected to drop to 50% within five years, while sales of its 48V MOSFETs, SiC devices and IGBT components for new energy vehicles also Will rise to at least 50% according to the business plan.

Lu Mingguang, honorary chairman of the company, once said that in the rapidly developing field of new energy vehicles, the required semiconductor wafers have shifted from mainstream silicon to third-generation semiconductors such as SiC and GaN. He emphasized that the development of Actron's future business will be in line with the development goals of its parent company Sino American Silicon Products (SAS), and will be able to obtain a better supply of upstream materials than its peers in the long run.

Actron's new chairman and CEO Tan said that Actron's automotive diodes are all delivered to the OE (original equipment) market, not aftermarket applications, and firm customer loyalty and solid sales channels have enabled the company to cut into the new energy vehicle field. Ahead of peers - Liang Yao, who replaced Lu in a management reshuffle in late May.

As the market share of internal combustion engine vehicles declines, Antron's diode shipments for such vehicles will trend downward, but the company will still be able to maintain revenue and profit growth in the segment, Yao said. He believes that with the development of energy saving and carbon reduction trend, the unit price and gross profit margin of the company's high-performance LLD (low loss diode) and ULLD (ultra-LLD) products are growing rapidly.

Yao revealed that Actron has been keen to develop various components for new energy vehicle applications in the past few years and is ready to steadily increase shipments over the next five years.

Actron President HC Wu said that sales of Actron's 48V MOSFETs for new energy vehicles are expected to double in the next 2-3 years and to gain a solid position in this field as European customers alone account for 30% of the global market share.

In terms of IGBT devices, the company adopts a vertically integrated deployment, handling design and assembly in-house, while outsourcing chip manufacturing, Wu said. It now has about 10 customers in this field, spread across Taiwan, China, Japan, the US and Europe.

Wu went on to say that Actron has delivered SiC modules mainly for industrial applications to Japanese customers, and will start sending samples of SiC modules for automotive to potential automotive customers for verification starting in July, mainly for OBC (on-board charging) and inverter applications device application.
